I have been trying to get this blog post out for days but this flu/sinusitis/infection just wont leave me alone!!!
I celebrated my birthday a few days ago – well…”celebrated” is probably overzealous since I spent the day in bed cuddled up to a box of tissues, pills and orange juice, however, it was my birthday and I’m always grateful for another year of God’s grace!
I’m 35 – eeek!!!! Now, I don’t say that out of fear of aging – I actually love most things that come with aging (operative word being most).
Here’s a list of notable changes – some good, some not so!
- Rest is vital – in my 20’s I could survive and function on very little sleep, I healed from sickness or even major ops like my cesarean much quicker than in my 30’s. This past week I had no choice but to take 2-3days in bed just to get over this flu and I mean flat in bed, doing nothing – not even social media!
Signs of aging – Fine lines and dry skin under my eyes have me googling eye creams – and they don’t come cheap y’all – I totally regret every time I rubbed my eyes, damaging that delicate under eye skin – I’m much gentler now (since seeing how expensive those creams are).
Dry skin – I’ve always had oily skin and would skip heavy creams and lotions especially in the summer time but these days I find that half way through the day I’m looking like an ambassador for Lacoste – which also has me googling body butters – I’m such an adult (googling stuff!).
Taste buds – This one is surprising – the older I get the more my palate changes – I now enjoy an array of veggies that I didn’t like in previous years.
Counting pennies – I had a habit of mindlessly buying things for the sake of having new stuff or staying trendy but since trying to live more with less (that happens when you hit mid 30’s – you become all philosophical and stuff) I mostly buy quality, timeless and necessary items (also…I have 3 Kids and private schooling is expensive so I’ve become a cheapskate) – no shame in my game!
Self awareness – I love how aware you become of yourself. Who you’re hanging around, what you’re listening to, what you’re reading, your thoughts, your words. It has brought a sense of peace to my life that I’m so grateful for. Yay for aging!!!
No – It was never a word I could say (except to my kids). But I’m learning that it’s necessary for my sanity and emotional and mental health. It’s still hard though, but I’m getting better at it (except when it comes to chocolate- that’s still considerably hard).
Do you – it’s easy to get sucked in by people’s lives on social media – for the longest time I’ve compared my blog or content to others and always felt like mine came up short, however, I’ve since learned that we’re all different, we all have different lives and we all have different stories to tell. I love inspiring people with my testimony – I believe that God saved my life for His glory and my testimony will always be a part of who I am.
Those are some things I wanted to share with you since hitting the mid-30 mark. I wanted to make it a list of 10 ( I mean who makes a list of 8 things) – (adulting is also making a lot of lists about stuff) but I’ve reached my philosophical quota for the day so that’ll have to do.

Bata Shoes launched their new range called Insolia and I was so blessed to be spoiled with a pair in the loveliest deep red – yayness!!!
Now, as a heavier girl, I tend to avoid heels as they can be quite uncomfortable and painful – I guess being heavier on my feet adds more pressure on the forefoot – BUT – as you can see, the shoe is designed to reduce forefoot pressure and allows for even weight distribution – and let me tell you – THEY AIN’T LYING Y’ALL!
I was able to dine and dance the night away in these babies with zero discomfort! I’ll definitely be adding a few pairs from the range to my shoe collection!
Thank you to Bata Shoes for the spoil and for getting it precisely right with this design!
Thanks for stopping by and stay sassy now!
Wow!!!! All About That Bass turns 1 – that’s right – 1 year ago I hit the publish button on my very 1st post. I had no idea what to expect as I set off on this blogging adventure, all I knew was that I had a deep desire to reach out to those who thought that you had to look a certain way to look or feel beautiful.
It wasn’t (and still isn’t) about the likes or comments or the number of followers – NO – it’s never about something as superficial as that – this blog was birthed from a desire to uplift and inspire women just like me – who often measure their worth by the number on the scale.
Looking back on the past year – I have to admit – this blog has forced me to grow in ways I never imagined. It has been such an amazing journey of learning, sharing, friendship and most of all gratitude!
Every e- mail subscriber, Facebook “like”, share and comment!
Everyone who follows me on Instagram and Pinterest!
All of the likes, pins and comments on the posts I’ve shared!
The sweet bloggers who include me in their blogroll!
A huge and heart-warming THANK YOU!
To celebrate, I will be giving away these 3 Revlon products to 1 lucky reader, all you have to do to enter is comment on this post and tell me what you love most about this blog!
(Please note – only people in S.A)
Thank you for reading & remember to stay sassy
Hello Lovely People!!!
Ok – wasn’t it just New Year’s a minute ago?!?
And now Easter is already upon us – whoa – the days seem to be flying past!
Today I’m channeling my inner College-Girl! I guess it’s the jacket and the twin buns – LOL!
I often keep my looks quite simple – I can be a plain-Jane like that – less is certainly more for me. That applies to make-up as well, most days I just throw on some mascara and lipgloss and I’m out the door!
I do admire ladies who go all out with hair and make-up though…I’m a bit of a tomboy – growing up with 5 older brothers and being the only girl – I guess it’s expected.
I totally love these cute, silver lace-ups I picked up from Mr P a while ago. I think they give this simple outfit that extra oomph!

How sick is this drawing of me?!?!? A very talented friend did this portrait for me and I’m so amazed at the detail. It’s pretty darn awesome!!!
Back to the post…
This past weekend I attended a friend’s birthday party. It was a very casual, Saturday night braai so I opted for comfy and casual in this jumpsuit paired with flats.
I was contemplating wearing this jumpsuit again (but decided against it) to a more formal party so I played around with it to take the outfit from a day to night look. Just swapped out the shoes and accessories and boom – ready for a night out!!!

I’ve had this song on repeat today. Maybe because that’s what I feel like sometimes.
You know when you’re on a path to recovery and you’ve actually been breaking ground and out of nowhere, someone or something comes along that threatens to shake everything?
Yeah! I’ve had to dig my heels in deep. I’m not going back there. Nope!!! Not ever!!! I might visit sometimes (LOL) but I ain’t staying!
I’m working on myself for myself because I don’t want to be that girl. That girl who looks for validation in others. That girl who wants to be accepted. That girl who spends her days trying to prove herself. I refuse to go back!!!
This might shake me, but I won’t let it break me!

And a whole weekend of celebrations!
On Saturday I hosted a party to celebrate mine and hubby’s birthdays – mine was yesterday – yay me!!! and hubby’s is tomorrow – yay Bae!!! (Rhyming skills again – LOL).
The theme was “Gender Bender” – All my ladies came dressed as lads and guys came as girls and boy, was it fun!!!
The guys really pulled out all the stops for this one and it was worth all the laughs! For once the ladies didn’t have to worry about hair and makeup and partying all night in ridiculously, high heels. Some of the guys actually have newfound respect for us ladies and all we go through to look our best – which brings me to my next point.
I’ve noticed a lot of woman 2 woman hate on social media. Girls dissing other girls for just about anything – she’s so skinny, she’s so fat, look what she’s wearing, look at her hair etc etc etc…like, what’s up with that?
Can we not admire another’s beauty without questioning our own? I honestly don’t know what I would do without the support of the women in my life and that includes people I’ve never met personally but gotten to know through social media. There are countless times when I was feeling some sort of way and I’d log onto Instagram or other and a post will just speak so much life into me. So why then do we choose to use our power and influence to bring our fellow sisters down? It just doesn’t make sense to me.
So, from tomorrow I’ll be posting a #woman2womanwednesday (It’s similar to the #WCW except that it’s exclusive to women – sorry guys!!!) I’ll be using this # every week to salute a woman of my choice – family/friend/follower – anyone who I feel has inspired me at some point – because let’s be real – sometimes we just gotta hear the good stuff LOL!
So, ladies, please don’t be alarmed if I steal a pic and post some corny stuff about you hahahaha!

Quote of the Day:
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years. – Audrey Hepburn

These days I prefer loose, flowy dresses over anything even slightly clingy. I don’t go anywhere near my jeans or any kind of pants for that matter – it’s just too hot for that kinda commitment LOL!
And like I’ve mentioned in a previous post, you can never go wrong with a black dress.
I had this one custom made by the talented ladies at Fleur Fashion House – I also have the same dress in grey – you can have a look here.

“I own too much black”- said NO ONE EVER!!!
Well, I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour – ha ha!
But seriously, I do love black – and who doesn’t?!?!
I’m not entirely comfortable with the tube part of this dress (bearing full arms) but I’ve been pushing myself to move outside that zone. You know, live a little – LOL! I do love the style though, especially the pockets!
This uneasy feeling just reiterates how difficult it is for anyone to move away from a poor self image, it’s a daily battle.
Some days are better than others but looking back I can surely see an improvement so I know I’m getting better.
